Microwave Kiln Kits - My Online shop

KILNS AND GLASS PACKS                                             (scroll down to order)

Until recently it has not been so easy for anybody to make their own glass at home but in the last little while the Japanese have invented a kiln that works in an ordinary microwave. I purchased one of these, and a microwave, as I don’t use one in the kitchen, and started testing it. Now I am supplying Kits which consist of one kiln, enough Dichroic glass cut and prepared to make six dichroic glass pendants, using techniques that I have developed since the mid nineties when I started using dichroic glass, and very comprehensive instructions. I demonstrate the making of glass in this way at my shows, except for the jewellery only shows ( dates and venues are on the Show dates page ) . So you can come and see a demonstration and take a kit home from there or I can post one to you. No demonstrations during the last hour of the last day of a show.

The kiln is round with an internal diameter of 75mm. The kiln also gets hot enough to fire precious metal clay but as I am no longer designing pieces using PMC I have not done the necessary tests to be able to tell you when the PMC is fired. You will have to do your own. I can tell you though that PMC leaves silver salts in the kiln shelf and these come out in the glass during the next firing so I suggest turning the bottom of the kiln over and using the other side.

You can also do any other kiln type of glass making but on a reduced scale. This includes slumping into a mould and pate de verre, but again I have not done the testing here to be able to tell you when it is ready. I have melted glass onto metal so enamelling is possible and adding metals in leaf and mesh form between layers of plain clear glass can give great results.

When you have made up all your pendants you can go on to do your own thing or you can come back to me for more cut and prepared packs of Dichroic glass. All my packs of glass are dichroic and cost £28   including post and packing and come in the following :-
